Photographers
Photographers Riccardo Gangale and Lionel Healing accompanied me on much of my travels across Congo and have since fused into my collective experience. Those two will forever be associated with the memory, and their images now give it the shape, grit, and color I see in my mind.

Marcus Bleasdale has been shooting photos in Congo for nearly a decade and has become one of the most dedicated chroniclers of the conflict's human toll. Over the years he’s worked closely with organizations such as Doctors Without Borders and Human Rights Watch and is represented by the photo agency VII. All three photographers’ sites include slideshows and podcasts of their work in country. Please stop by.

Reporters
Todd Pitman is the AP West Africa bureau chief based in Dakar, Senegal, and was my supervisor during my period in Kinshasa. Todd’s work is a testament to the beauty that’s possible in everyday, wire-service stories and his example made me a better writer.

Ben Curtis is AP’s photo chief based in Cairo. His photos of our time covering the 2005 Togo elections won a World Press Photo Award.
